FAQ

Grima Tile & Stone
How much does tile installation cost?

Tile installation costs vary based on tile size, layout pattern, substrate condition, and project complexity. Large-format tile, custom layouts, and extensive prep work typically increase labor costs. We provide detailed estimates after reviewing your space and materials.

Grima Tile and Stone will provide a custom quote for each project.  We do not base our estimates on a cookie cutter formula. Slab pricing depends on material type, thickness, edge detail, seam placement, cutouts and splash selections.

Yes, Large-format tile requires flatter substrates, specialized handling and tighter tolerances, which increases labor time

Typical tile installation costs are more expensive than LVT and similar in cost to hardwood.  Tile has a longer lifespan, and greater durability, than LVT and hardwood.

Yes. Licensing and insurance protect both the client and the contractor and ensure the work meets industry and safety standards.

Natural stone is inherently unique as no two are exactly the same.  Natural stone like Quartzites, Marbles and Granites are durable, have excellent heat resistance and add great resale value to your home.  Natural stone has greater maintenance needs, is more susceptible to staining and etching and can have a hefty price tag.  Man-made quartz is non-porous and low maintenance; it resists staining, etching and is bacteria resistant.  Quartz is heat sensitive and UV sensitive.  It is not appropriate for use outdoors or around fireplaces.

Slab countertops offer fewer seams, a cleaner appearance, and easier maintenance. Tile countertops can be more affordable but require grout upkeep.

Porcelain tiles are extremely durable and hold up beautifully in high traffic areas.

Properly installed tile can last decades. Longevity depends on material choice, traffic levels, and maintenance.

Grima Tile recommends using a product made specifically for natural stone like HMK’s Liquid Stone Soap

All stains should be professionally evaluated and treated.  Some stains can be removed with the application of a poultice, others may be permanent.

The most common cause of tile cracking is subfloor movement or the lack of an uncoupling membrane underneath the tile application.

Proper waterproofing should be tested before tile installation begins.  This ensures the shower pan is water tight and won’t become a future issue.

Early involvement helps ensure proper substrate prep, layout planning, and material coordination—especially for large-format tile and slab installs.
